All about me!

I went to school in Edinburgh and then did an Education degree at Edinburgh University and Moray House College of Education.

I have taught all ages from 5 to 18+.  I taught for four years in Edinburgh and Fife before moving to Surrey  where I taught Maths for a number of years at Rodborough School in Milford.   I then taught for sixteen years at  Godalming College.

I now work as a freelance Maths Education Consultant.  I have recently been appointed a Regional Subject Lead for post-16 Maths.  I am also a Personal Leadership Tutor working with Fast track teachers in London.  As well as these I have been doing some research for QCA, leading one-day training courses for teachers and working with the Standards Unit to develop a new approach to teaching post-16 Maths.

I have recently completed a M.Sc. in Computer Enhanced Mathematics Education at Napier University in Edinburgh.   My  dissertation was about the the factors which influence whether or not a student takes AS Maths.  In September I plan to continue with this research.

I am Vice Chair of NANAMIC (The National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges ).  I am also the Joint Editor of the Mathematical Association website.

I am married to Iain and have two sons, Fraser and Moray.  We enjoy travelling and visiting classical sites [slide image] and if you would like to see more of our holiday photographs, you should visit Moray's site.
